Traditional beer requires very few brew supplies and ingredients. The main ingredients are barley malt, hop and water, though sugar is often also added. These are the basic ingredients defined by the Pure Beer Act of 1874, but there are a wide number of ingredients that are used such as rice, molasses, wheat, corn, spices and flavorings.
Brew supplies vary from country to country, even town to town with some people preferring light, crisp, rice brewed beer such as Budweiser, while others prefer a thick wheat brewed hefeweisen. There are really no limits to what ingredients can be added, and many microbreweries try interesting combinations and seasonal blends, such as pumpkin spice in the fall and honey wheat in the spring. The creativity is really left to the brew master.
Finding brew supplies to create the perfectly flavored and delicious tasting beer of choice is not difficult. There are a number of online retailers that produce and sell prepackaged ingredients designed specifically for brewing beer, and once the basics are understood ingredients can be found at regular grocery stores, farmers markets and local brew shops.
