The average kit can run anywhere from about $75 to $200USD depending on the quality of the equipment and whether ingredients and other supplies and tools are included. Buying the supplies at a hardware store can lower the cost to right around $50USD.

Home brew kits contain at the bare minimum a brew pot, fermentation container, and an airlock. Most people can get by with just this amount of equipment but there are many other items that make the process easier such as funnels, stirring sticks, hoses and tubing, sanitizer, ingredients and flavors, brewer's yeast, bottles and caps, and other items. The quality varies as well, the best brew pots are stainless steel, though aluminum is offered at lower price points.

Home brew kits can be found in specialty brew shops that are dedicated to getting more people brewing their own beer. If there is not one locally the best option is to find one online. These retailers can ship nearly anywhere in the world as long as laws permit. If there are not kits available locally or no way to ship them the equipment can be found in hardware stores but may need minor modifications such as adding a spigot or airlock.
